In his latest campaign advertisement, Democratic Senator Michael Bennet says, “I know it feels like sometimes no one is listening.”
Unfortunately, for Senator Bennet, it also seems like no one was looking at the product placement in his new ad either.
Bennet’s latest campaign ad prominently features footage of racist Aunt Jemima products on grocery store shelves in one key part of the ad that attempts to inoculate the liberal Senator against his support for Joe Biden’s inflation boosting policies.

While Bennet’s voice narrates a line about Coloradans facing record prices, viewers are subjected to visuals of store shelves stacked with Aunt Jemima products, or what a National Public Radio report once referred to as a “racist stereotype.”
Similarly, in June 2020, a Vox headline blared, “Aunt Jemima and the long-overdue rebrand of racist stereotypes.”

A CNN headline published on that same day declared, “The Aunt Jemima brand, acknowledging its racist past, will be retired.”

While Quaker Oats has since retired and replaced the Aunt Jemima brand with a new brand called Pearl Milling Company, Senator Michael Bennet has instead chosen to feature the Aunt Jemima products in his reelection ad.
Bennet’s puzzling decision seems to directly contradict a statement he made on June 2, 2020 when he said, “We will never heal as a country until we fully confront and dismantle the systemic racism that plagues every aspect of our society. As a white male and a United States senator, it is my duty to use my platform and position to do this.”
It is unclear if Bennet, a white male and United States senator, will continue to use his platform to promote racist Aunt Jemima products on air with millions of dollars in campaign spending, or switch out the footage and feature less racist pancake mixes.
