Colorado Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Heidi Ganahl has just released her tax returns from 2019, 2020, and 2021. The move comes after a challenge to both candidates in the second gubernatorial debate that took place on CBS4.
During that debate, Jared Polis claimed he has “released several years of tax returns.” In reality, Polis has not released a tax return for about 10 years. In fact, an IRS leak of some of his tax returns show that Polis paid NO taxes for three years.
Ganahl’s taxes are posted on her website. Her tax returns show that she paid taxes at an effective tax rate between 22 and 30 percent over the last three years.
“Colorado taxpayers deserve to know what Jared Polis is hiding. Polis continues to raise taxes for hard working Coloradans but will not prove he is paying his share of the burden. What does he have to hide? Is he writing off more deductions to charities promoting his name? Is he investing in more companies he benefits from like FanDuel? I will lead with the transparency and honesty that Colorado voters deserve,” Ganahl told Campfire Colorado.
Earlier in the election, ProPublica examined those leaked returns and found, “Despite a net worth estimated to be in the hundreds of millions, Polis paid nothing in federal income taxes in 2013, 2014 and 2015. From 2010 to 2018, his overall rate was just 8.2% — less than half of the 19% paid by a worker making $45,000 in 2018.”
Polis spent $23 million self-funding his first campaign for governor. He has spent $11 million so far on this election. But continues to refuse to release his tax records. In the 2018 election, he blamed his opponent for not releasing his tax records. What will his excuse be now?
